Clutch: Running back, Week 16

My apologies for not posting last week. Tis not only the season for giving but also receiving… in my case, a nasty virus. But I’m all better now, if a little pressed for time, so I’ll try and churn out what I can for those of you who are playing for your fantasy championship this week.

  1. Rashard Mendenhall vs Carolina Panthers – This is the perfect set-up for Mendenhall, who has quietly had a very good season. The Panthers are a total mess on both sides of the ball, and their defense especially has trouble against running backs. They are allowing the third most points to opposing running backs, and the Steelers will be looking to put the hurt on the Panthers after a disappointing loss to the Jets. The only thing that will keep Mendenhall from a huge game is if they yank him for his backups after they get a lead.

  2. Arian Foster @ Denver Broncos – He let down a number of owner last week, and there was some concern he wouldn’t play this week due to an injury that kept him out late last week. However, he looks to be good to play against a defense that allows the most running back fantasy points. He got you this far – have faith he’ll come through for you when it counts the most. It doesn’t hurt that they’ll probably run the ball a bit more with Andre Johnson a game-time decision.

  3. Tashard Choice vs Arizona Cardinals – The Cardinals are the second-worst fantasy defense against opposing running backs, and both Felix Jones (shin) and Marion Barber (groin) are hurt. Choice should carry the load despite what Jason Garrett is saying, and he has all the motivation in the world to make an impact. He’s a great player to take a chance on as a RB2 or flex play.

  4. LeGarrette Blount vs Seattle Seahawks – I’ve been a fan of Blount’s, and he should cash it in for a lot of owners this week. The Bucs need this game to have any shot at the playoffs, and the Hawks the fifth worst defense in allowing fantasy points to running backs. Blount also has trended to play much better at home than on the road (averaging 94 yards and a touchdown in the past four home games). He’s a must-play!

  5. Darren McFadden vs Indianapolis Colts – Few running backs have been hotter, and the Colts are still one of the worst teams against the running back. Oakland is all but out of the race, but they’d love to play spoiler to the Colts. He should have a great game as the Raiders will play ball control to keep Peyton Manning off the field.
