Fantasy Apps Review 3: Fantasy Football Draft Monster ‘11 (Updated)

This third installment of the Fantasy Apps Review covers the last of the three major drafting apps currently on the App Store. Unlike the previous two, this app is not offered by a fantasy football content producer but rather a developer whose sole focus is creating fantasy football apps for the iPhone. Bignoggins Productions literally just released this app on July 27, so read on for the very first look at this new entry in the drafting app market.

Update 8/12: Version 1.1 release adds ability to change draft position in mocks, ability to hide/show drafted players, added bye weeks, fixed Yahoo draft crash while chatting, fixed player stats bug, and fixed other bugs and stability issues. Increased Stability by 1.0, Features by 0.25, and decreased Navigation by 0.25.

Back in days of fantasy football yore, when league business was conducted in the basement and living room, the only tools an owner had at their disposal was a pen and paper, a fantasy football magazine or two, and perhaps a big board to track draft picks. Lineups were literally submitted to the commissioner on a piece of paper or over the phone. A simpler era for sure, but everything was also extraordinarily time-consuming.

Thanks to the wonders that are technology, leagues are mostly run and managed entirely online. Owners simply need to click a button and can get information instantly thanks to the web. Another click, and you’ve submitted your weekly lineup or agreed to a trade proposal. It’s truly a marvel how easy it is to set-up, run, and participate in fantasy football leagues thanks to computers. It truly is magical.1

Two apps for your iPhone

If you have an iPhone and host any leagues on Myfantasyleague.com, you need to check out FF Draft Advisor by Simon Shepherd at GoAheadScore.com and MFL Mobile 2011 by John Lansing at Eggplant Apps.1 The Draft Advisor let’s you manage drafts offline or MFL online drafts. It gives you player rankings and advice on who to take based on ADP data. It’s a terrific app that is well worth the $3. MFL Mobile 2010 picks up where the FF Draft Advisor leaves off, allowing you to manage your teams on MFL.com. You can add/drop players, submit lineups, get live scores, access the league standings, access league rosters, access and post to your league boards, access injury reports, and lots more. Essentially, it’s your MFL league page on your phone. It’s a steal for $2.
